Kemp, Shafer & Brockway attend 9th Annual Georgia Carry Convention
On Saturday August 5th, www.georgiacarry.org held their 9th annual convention at the Renaissance Waverly in Cobb Galleria Center. Several noted guests made appearances at the convention, including the campaigns of four of the declared GOP candidates. No gubernatorial candidate’s campaign outside the GOP made an appearance at the convention.
Of the campaigns, Brian Kemp was the only candidate to personally appear at the convention. GCO board member James Camp says “Brian Kemp met with GCO’s board of directors to solicit their input on the issues the group has encountered in advancing 2A legislation through the legislature and the roadblocks the current Governor and Lt. Governor have put up behind the scenes to hinder such advancements. Secretary Kemp also stayed for a bit to meet and greet with GCO members in attendance at the convention.”
Lt Gubernatorial candidate David Shafer was present and met with GCO board members as well. Secretary of State Candidate Buzz Brockway was present in the vendor area.
If you’re not familiar with GCO, James Camp makes the following statement about the organization:
“GeorgiaCarry.org is 501 (c)4 non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization. GCO works for gun owners, not politicians. We are not interested in “access” or being “inside players.” We will not protect or make excuses for politicians who say they are our “friends” and then demonstrate otherwise by voting against us. Public policy is controlled by the people who consistently show up and stay involved. GCO believes informed, active gun owners are the best defense against those who endeavor to infringe our liberties. To that end, GCO works tirelessly to keep our membership informed and active, and our members respond with equal passion and commitment. GCO holds a convention annually and invites guest speakers from around the country to speak on their experiences in defending the 2nd Amendment. GCO also encourages candidates for political office, from whatever party or affiliation, who share the same interests as GCO to attend the convention to give our members a chance to learn about the candidates and their positions. The annual conventions also hosts vendors from the firearms and self-defense industry at our “vendor show” and also hosts many breakout sessions for our members to learn about self-defense techniques, the laws on carrying, lobbying at the legislature and reaching out to your elected officials, and a forum for our members to meet the founders and the board of GeorgiaCarry.org.”
Camp is a co-founder of GeorgiaCarry.org and a current board member. He also served as the organization’s first membership coordinator.
The Keynote speaker for the convention was Gene Hoffman of the Calguns Foundation, a grassroots civil rights foundation protecting the 2A rights of Californians. Gene discussed the many facets and dangers of California gun bans and registrations to a crowd of about 150 GCO members.
